Something Sad, But if Told a Certain Way Can Be Funny

So the old assistant managers of Danbury Manor moved out on the 27th of June. Jarod and I got the keys the next day and saw what we wanted to fix up about the apartment. You see, it smelled like old people and mold and we don't really like that fragrance. So we knew we wanted to take out the carpet and replace it with some form of flooring. We knew we wanted to paint the walls because of the odd color of green it was. Kind of like a lime green but in a pastel shade... like spring green. NOT the color that would match with our furniture. Then in the bathroom, we need to gut out the mold in the bath tub and put some form of protective covering on the wall around the bathtub, like tile or some thing. We went to get the products for the project and found a great deal on wood laminate flooring and got the perfect paint for the project. We set to work right away and got the walls painted in about a day. Next project would be the floor. We needed to be out of our apartment on the 4th so we had to do all of this fairly quickly. Jarod stripped the carpet out of the bedroom and found out a lot that was the start of our problems.
The bedroom had been part kitchen at one point in it's life and was half tile. The other part was wood... they had added on to the room. The vents were covered with duck tape and when we took the vents out of the floor, all we saw was dirt, and figured we could just cover the floor with the laminate because they were obviously not being used for heating (we had a gas heater in the living room).
I called over my friend to help me prep the floor while Jarod was at work and we started taking out staples and tack strip from the floor. When Whitney started pulling the tack strip from the tile, the tile started coming up and cracking; almost falling apart. The wood, when stood on, gave way a little so we knew we needed to get some screws and secure it better... I figured that is what I would have to do with the tile. But as we progressed with the tile, it was getting harder and harder not to break the stuff. There was a nail sticking out of the floor and instead of pulling the floor up with it, we decided to hammer it in. The floor did as expected and continued to fall apart. I needed to know how much the floor would give and put a little pressure down in the corner of the floor. Within a few seconds, the ball of my foot had successfully gone through the floor creating a small crater. Whitney simply looked up at me from her crouched position, laughed, and stated very sarcastically... "Nice going Kari!"
I didn't know what to do. We needed to move in in a few days and I knew we couldn't fix the floor in time. Whitney and I went over to talk to the managers and have them look at it so they could decide what to do. They came over and checked out the problems. They used a piece of tack strip to see how much dirt was in our vents and after digging for about 2 inches, confirmed they couldn't see any cement foundations. They said it had to be fixed and we were top priority because there has to be a manager on site. So to finish up, we get a new floor, and hopefully fairly soon. We don't want to have to move from place to place. We will be stationed in one of the other apartments for a while until it is fixed and we will get the pictures of our new apartment once it is all fixed and ready. It was a disaster but now on the bright side, we get to have an almost new apartment.
